As most of my students know, I am an Adult-Onset-Swimmer. When I was 27 years old, I decided to master this whole swimming thing, and despite my fears and anxieties, I signed up for a Beginning Swimming class at Portland State University where I was attending graduate school. I have never looked back, and over … Continue reading

As the seasons and shadows change at Swimcrest, there’s still some wonderful swimming happening. Wait–how did that get in there? Hmmmmmm. Happy Autumn/Almost Winter everyone.
Conquering fear – an adult learns to swim
I saw this New York Times story today and was completely inspired. It speaks so much to the feelings so many of my adult learners have as they are conquering their fears and learning to relax in the water and ultimately, learning to swim. Congratulations to Attis Clopton for bravely taking this step and changing … Continue reading
Mid-Summer Swimcrest Swimming Fun
So much quality swimming these past two weeks. Open water training, blowing bubble learning, triathlon prepping, friend hanging, Grandma time fun having, and a whole lot more. It’s been a good one. Hope you are having some great water time too!

Just over one year ago, Kyle came to me for the first time. 11-years-old, he was at the point where it felt REALLY important to learn to swim. And yet at that age, it’s a hard thing to do. Your friends can swim, your … Continue reading
This is why I teach.
Last night, after 4 hours of lessons in a row and seeing a new student for the first time, I got an email that absolutely made my day. It was my first time with a student who has been on a local swim team for the last two seasons and who has been feeling a … Continue reading
This week at Swimcrest
Some good swimming here this week. The photos speak for themselves.
Swimmers and Body Image – “Men feel insecure about their bodies too.”
In my non-swimming life, amongst the many other things I try to squeeze into my day, I write. Today, Role/Reboot published a piece that combines both of my worlds, a reflection on what I see my students grapple with when it comes to body image. I’d love to hear your thoughts. How do allow yourself … Continue reading
